Fully comprehensive 7-day cover for a borrowed car, a road trip or a week of extra driving – with no annual policy and no risk to the owner’s No Claims Discount.
Weekly car insurance is a short-term policy that covers you to drive a specific car for seven days. It suits anyone who needs a car for longer than a weekend but nowhere near a year – visiting family, helping someone move house, covering while your own car is off the road, or sharing the driving on a holiday in Great Britain.
Choose seven days of cover, or pick any period from 1 hour up to 30 days if your plans change.
It’s a separate, standalone policy, so a claim won’t touch the vehicle owner’s annual policy or their No Claims Discount.
Your certificate is emailed instantly and your policy details are uploaded to the Motor Insurance Database.
Yes. A week of temporary cover is one of the most common short-term policies in the UK, and you can usually arrange it online in a couple of minutes. With Insure Car Cover you choose the car, the start time and the length of cover, and the policy runs for that period only. When the week is up the cover simply ends – there’s nothing to cancel and no renewal to remember.
Because the policy is in your name and completely separate from the owner’s annual insurance, you don’t need to be added to their policy as a named driver. That matters if you’re borrowing a parent’s, partner’s or friend’s car: if something goes wrong, any claim is made on your temporary policy rather than theirs.
There’s no single price for 1 week car insurance in the UK, because every quote is worked out on your own details. Insurers look at the same kinds of risk factors they use for annual cover, then price them for the length of time you need. The main things that affect your quote are:
Keeping your quote accurate is the best way to keep it fair. Choose the length of cover you genuinely need, give correct details about the car and your driving history, and check the start time before you pay so you’re not buying days you won’t use. The quickest way to see your price is to get a quote – it only takes a couple of minutes and there’s no obligation to buy.
Adding a named driver to someone else’s annual policy can work for regular use, but it isn’t always ideal for a one-off week. The owner may be charged an admin fee to make the change, and if you have an accident the claim goes on their policy, which can affect their No Claims Discount and their future premiums.
A standalone weekly policy avoids that. The owner’s annual insurance isn’t changed at all, and a claim on your temporary cover won’t affect their No Claims Discount. If you find you need the same car every week, though, it’s worth looking at an annual policy too – temporary cover is designed for occasional rather than everyday driving.
Our temporary policies are fully comprehensive. They’re designed to cover damage to the car you’re driving, fire and theft, and your liability to other people and their property, subject to the excess, terms and exclusions in your policy. Always read your policy wording, as it sets out exactly what is and isn’t covered.
Cover is for social, domestic and pleasure use in Great Britain. It isn’t intended for business use, food delivery or any form of hire and reward, such as taxi work. If you need a car for those purposes, you’ll need a different type of policy.
You’ll need the car’s registration number, your driving licence details and some basic information about yourself. The car must be UK registered and you must have the owner’s permission to drive it. Eligibility criteria and underwriting acceptance apply, so the quote journey will confirm whether you and the vehicle can be covered.
Once you’ve paid, your documents are emailed straight away and the policy is uploaded to the Motor Insurance Database (MID), which police use to check whether a vehicle is insured. That matters: driving without insurance can lead to a £300 fixed penalty and 6 penalty points, and if the case goes to court, an unlimited fine, disqualification and the vehicle being seized.
Yes. You can buy a standalone short-term policy that covers you to drive a specific UK-registered car for seven days. It’s arranged online in a couple of minutes, and eligibility criteria apply to both the driver and the vehicle.
The cost depends on your age, driving experience, claims and convictions history, the car and where it’s kept, and how long you want cover for. Because every quote is personalised, the only way to know your price is to get a quote online.
Yes, our temporary policies are fully comprehensive as standard. They cover social, domestic and pleasure use in Great Britain, and your policy wording sets out the full terms, excess and exclusions.
No. A week of temporary cover is a separate policy in your name, so any claim is made on your policy rather than the owner’s annual insurance. Their No Claims Discount isn’t affected.
If you need longer, you can apply for a new policy before your current one ends, subject to eligibility. Set the new cover to start before the old cover finishes so there’s no gap when you’re uninsured.
Yes. You can choose a start time from now onwards, and your documents are emailed as soon as you’ve paid. Your policy details are also uploaded to the Motor Insurance Database.
